Handloom

The loom has been used in Greece since Homer’s time to weave various fabrics.

Penelope famously wove during the day and unraveled her work at night to deceive her suitors until Odysseus returned.

On the loom, our ancestors used to weave their traditional clothing, wedding garments, and household items (sheets, curtains, tablecloths, rugs, etc.).

Since ancient times, the women of Meganisi have been exceptionally talented in the art of weaving.

The art of weaving is a tradition that stands out for its beauty, rare craftsmanship, and functionality.

Creating these handmade woven fabrics is a unique art that leaves people in awe. This craft requires a love for creation, as well as immense patience and concentration. It is an art that gradually reveals itself on the loom as intricate patterns slowly emerge.

Weaving on a loom is a creative, relaxing process that leaves a deep sense of satisfaction. When you weave, you focus on the different threads and designs, joining them to create a unique work of art.

Walking through our villages, you can still hear the distinct sound of the loom and see this art being created right before your eyes.
