YOUR GUIDE TO ISLAND ACCESS

Car Roof Selfie

by car

Access to Meganisi is straightforward, as Lefkada is the only Greek island reachable by car. A floating bridge connects Lefkada to Etoloakarnania, rotating fully every hour from 8:00 to 22:00. Between 23:00 and 07:00, the bridge rotates as needed for passing boats. Major infrastructure projects like the Rio-Antirio Bridge, the Aktio Underwater Tunnel, Egnatia Odos, Olympia Odos, and Ionia Odos have greatly reduced travel time from all parts of Greece, making the journey to Meganisi faster, safer, and more convenient.

From Athens
Travel to Lefkada via the Athens-Corinth National Road, then cross the Rio-Antirio Bridge. Follow Olympia Odos, Ionia Odos, and Amvrakia Motorway. The total driving time from Athens to Lefkada is approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes.

From Northern Greece
Take the Egnatia Motorway to Ioannina, then follow the signs to Preveza. After crossing the Aktio Underwater Tunnel, continue to Lefkada, and from there, head toward Nidri. The total distance from Thessaloniki to Lefkada is 385 km.

Upon arriving at Nidri's port, you’ll find signs directing you to the ferry boat to Meganisi. The ferry ride takes only 20 minutes and offers a captivating view. Along the way, you’ll pass by the island of Madouri, with the historic mansion of famed poet Aristotle Valaoritis, and the legendary private island of Skorpios, once owned by Aristotle Onassis and now by Russian tycoon Dmitry Rybolovlev.
